The prompt

Render this image as a 1971 to 1979 midnight movie cult cinema poster in the visual register of the El Topo, Eraserhead, Rocky Horror, and Pink Flamingos campaigns, hand-drawn in pen and ink with selective fluorescent ink overlays. Use a hallucinated palette of acid magenta, bile yellow, electric tangerine, blood crimson, ink black, and one wash of cyanide green or radioactive cyan. Compose with melting figure-ground relationships, hand-drawn pattern fills swallowing the background, organic decorative borders, and unsettling decorative repetition. Render the subject with confident pen line work, dense crosshatch shadow, fluorescent ink fills that seem to vibrate at the color boundaries, and a slight off-register screen print effect as if the poster were stapled to a telephone pole. The atmosphere is countercultural, sleep-deprived, transgressive, recruiting the viewer into a screening that begins after midnight and ends in something they cannot fully describe later. Strictly no on-canvas text, no title lettering, no legible type, no studio marks, no watermark. Preserve the subject, pose, and composition of the source image exactly, change only the medium and rendering. Aspect ratio matches source.

What it is doing

The midnight movie circuit invented modern cult marketing by accident. By keeping the screening time inconvenient, the venue rarefied, and the poster ugly in interesting ways, the underground discovered that scarcity was the most efficient possible amplifier. The studios spent the next forty years trying to manufacture that same scarcity synthetically, with limited releases, surprise drops, and engineered FOMO. The psychedelic poster is the original artifact of the strategy, before it had a name. Any contemporary image in this register inherits the same recruiting trick, the suggestion that whatever it depicts is happening somewhere the viewer is currently not.
