# Phone plan review: questions to ask Ferncall

Source: phone-plan.txt (18 numbered clauses). These are questions to raise, not conclusions.

Clause 1: OK

Clause 2: OK

Clause 3: ASK
Quote: "Your plan includes unlimited data in the United States."
Question: Clause 14 says my data speed may be reduced after 25 GB in a billing cycle, so what speed would I get after that point, and how does that fit with "unlimited data"?

Clause 4: ASK
Quote: "After the twelfth billing month, the monthly price becomes Ferncall's standard rate of $58.00."
Question: Will you remind me before the price rises to $58.00, and can the standard rate itself change later?

Clause 5: ASK
Quote: "Customer agrees to automatic payment from the card or bank account on file."
Question: Can I pay another way if I do not want automatic payment, and is there any fee or price change if I opt out?

Clause 6: ASK
Quote: "Ferncall will add a network access fee of $9.99 each month to Customer's bill."
Question: Is the $9.99 network access fee fixed for the life of the plan, or can it go up, and if so, with how much notice?

Clause 7: ASK
Quote: "Taxes and government charges are added to the bill as required."
Question: Roughly how much do taxes and government charges add to a typical monthly bill at my address?

Clause 8: ASK
Quote: "Ferncall keeps the phone locked to its network until the last installment is paid."
Question: If I pay off the remaining installments early, how soon after that will you unlock the phone, and do I need to request it?

Clause 9: ASK
Quote: "any remaining phone installments become due on the final bill, together with any other amounts owed."
Question: Besides the remaining phone installments, what other amounts could appear on the final bill if I cancel, and is there any cancellation fee?

Clause 10: ASK
Quote: "Ferncall may suspend service until the balance is paid."
Question: Is there a late fee or reconnection fee, and will you notify me before suspending service?

Clause 11: ASK
Quote: "Other international roaming is charged at the rates posted on the Ferncall website."
Question: Is data use in Canada and Mexico included as well as calls and texts, and will I get an alert before roaming charges begin elsewhere?

Clause 12: OK

Clause 13: ASK
Quote: "coverage may vary by location and building."
Question: If coverage turns out to be poor at my home or workplace, is there a trial period during which I can cancel without owing more than the phone balance?

Clause 14: ASK
Quote: "Ferncall may reduce Customer's data speed for the rest of that cycle."
Question: How much would my data speed be reduced, and will you tell me when I reach the 25 GB point?

Clause 15: ASK
Quote: "Its privacy notice on the Ferncall website explains how that information is used."
Question: Is my usage information shared with or sold to anyone outside Ferncall, and can I opt out of that?

Clause 16: ASK
Quote: "Customer should tell Ferncall right away if the phone is lost or stolen so Ferncall can suspend the line."
Question: If the phone is lost or stolen, do I keep owing the remaining installments and the monthly charges while the line is suspended?

Clause 17: ASK
Quote: "Continued use of the service after the notice date means Customer accepts the change."
Question: How many days of notice will you give before a change takes effect, and can I cancel without extra charges if I do not accept it?

Clause 18: ASK
Quote: "These terms are the whole agreement between Ferncall and Customer for this line."
Question: Do any promises made in ads or by store staff, such as the $35.00 introductory price, need to be written into these terms to count?
