# Decisions for Maya's Ghostty setup

Source of every quote: `observations.txt`, plus `answers.txt` (Maya's reply after a day of use) where marked. Ghostty version read: 1.3.1 (`/Applications/Ghostty.app/Contents/MacOS/ghostty --version`).
Defaults were read with `ghostty +show-config --default`, shortcuts with `ghostty +list-keybinds --default`, and themes with `ghostty +list-themes --plain` (all run as the full app path above).

Each "Default:" line below is checked by `check.py` against what Ghostty itself reports.

## Note 1: text size

- What she wants: larger text than she started with.
- Default: `font-size = 13`
- Command: `ghostty +show-config --default`
- Evidence for a change: "Ghostty started at 13 points and I was squinting within a minute" and "which made it 16 points, and ten lines were comfortable on my desk monitor".
- Earlier decision: `font-size = 16`, the size she had tested on the desk monitor only ("I have not tried 16 on it yet" for the laptop). That was the open question in questions.md.
- New evidence (answers.txt): "At 16 points on the laptop I still leaned forward to read it" and "I pressed Command and the plus key two more times, which made it 18 points, and ten lines were comfortable on the laptop and on the desk monitor".
- Decision: change. Write `font-size = 18`, the size she tested and found comfortable on both screens. One setting covers both, and 18 is her tested result for each. The built-in shortcuts still work for quick changes:
- Default keybind: `super++=increase_font_size:1`
- Default keybind: `super+-=decrease_font_size:1`
- Default keybind: `super+0=reset_font_size`

## Note 2: light in the morning, dark at night

- What she wants: a terminal that is readable in morning glare and follows her Mac's Light and Dark appearance.
- Default: `theme = ` (empty, so the terminal colors are always Ghostty's dark default)
- Default: `window-theme = auto`
- Command: `ghostty +show-config --default`, then `ghostty +list-themes --plain` to confirm both themes are marked `(resources)`, meaning built in.
- Evidence for a change: "the terminal stays dark all day, and in the morning glare the dark window is hard to read" and "My Mac switches between Light and Dark appearance on its own".
- Decision: change. Write `theme = light:Builtin Light, dark:Ghostty Default Style Dark`. In Light appearance she gets plain dark text on white; in Dark appearance she keeps the look she already has. Note 6 says she only cares that colors are readable, so I chose the plainest high contrast light theme rather than a styled one. `window-theme = auto` already follows the system when the theme has light and dark halves, so it stays at its default.
- After a day of use (answers.txt): "The light colors fixed the morning glare." No change; the line stays as it is.

## Notes 3 to 6 after her answer

answers.txt: "I want to keep everything else as it is." Notes 3 to 6 keep their decisions below, unchanged.

## Note 3: Claude Code on one side, a second terminal on the other

- What she wants: two terminals side by side in one window.
- Default keybind: `super+d=new_split:right`
- Default keybind: `super+[=goto_split:previous`
- Default keybind: `super+]=goto_split:next`
- Command: `ghostty +list-keybinds --default`
- Evidence for a change: none. The default already does this.
- Decision: keep the default, write nothing. Press Command and D to split the window into left and right. Press Command and [ or Command and ] to move between the two sides. Close a side with Command and W.

## Note 4: afraid of closing the window while the agent works

- What she wants: protection from closing a window by accident while a program is running.
- Default: `confirm-close-surface = true`
- Default keybind: `super+z=undo`
- Command: `ghostty +show-config --default` and `ghostty +list-keybinds --default`
- Evidence for a change: none. With the default `true`, Ghostty asks for confirmation before closing a terminal where a program such as Claude Code is still running.
- Decision: keep the default, write nothing. If she does close something by mistake, Command and Z (undo) can bring it back right after.

## Note 5: see-through, blurred window

- What she wants: unsure. "It looked cool, but I do not know whether it would help me read."
- Default: `background-opacity = 1`
- Default: `background-blur = false`
- Command: `ghostty +show-config --default`
- Evidence for a change: none. She does not say it would help her read, and her other notes (squinting, morning glare) point toward more contrast, not less.
- Decision: keep the default (solid window), write nothing.

## Note 6: colors and shortcuts

- What she wants: readable colors and no list of shortcuts to learn.
- Default: `cursor-style = block`
- Command: `ghostty +show-config --default` and `ghostty +list-keybinds --default`
- Evidence for a change: none. "I do not care about colors beyond being able to read them, and I do not want to learn a list of keyboard shortcuts."
- Decision: keep the defaults, write nothing, add no custom shortcuts. The only keys the guide asks her to know are Command and D (split), Command and plus or minus (text size), and Command and comma (settings).
