Solve the case from three clues

A pocket-size deduction puzzle with an answer you can prove.

What the agent made

Ran it for real with Claude Code 2.1.292 and OMP 18.8.5 on 2026-10-08, in an empty session with no saved memory. Your result will differ.

The same prompt in OMP made its own version: open what OMP made. Two runs, two different results: that is normal.

Make your own

  1. Get the files

    Download the practice folder (ZIP)

Unzip it: you get a folder called cli-practice with 1 fictional file. Download the fictional clues.txt with three suspects, three clues, and one answer key.

  2. Open your agent in that folder

Open a terminal in cli-practice and type claude or omp --approval-mode always-ask. First time? Set up in about five minutes, with steps for Mac, Windows, and Linux.

  3. Paste this prompt

Read clues.txt without changing it. Create one self-contained offline mystery.html: reveal three clues one at a time, choose one of three suspects, and check the answer. Use the answer key only for checking, never display it before a guess. Explain why the right answer follows and each alternative fails. Add reset to hide clues and results. Use embedded HTML, CSS, and JavaScript only. Work only inside this practice folder; never edit inputs, install packages, call APIs, send messages, or load external assets. Use no em dashes or en dashes.

The prompt asks the agent to stay in this folder; it cannot enforce that. Read each file change and command before you approve it.

  4. Check it yourself

Open cli-practice/mystery.html in your web browser (double-click it), then:

Human check: Reveal all clues, guess a wrong suspect then the right one, read the explanation, reset, and repeat.

When we checked the recording above: Opened browser page, revealed three clues in order, guessed Rue and saw why that was wrong, guessed Vale and saw correct verdict with eliminations, reset to hidden clues and result, revealed and solved again. No external requests.

Why an agent, not a chat window

An agent turns a structured clue file into a playable offline deduction page with an actual answer checker.
